FoxFi (WiFi Tether) APK

A new WiFi Direct solution (free update) is now added to PdaNet for connecting computers or tablets in addition to USB tether. The legacy WiFi Hotspot solution remains in FoxFi. If the legacy FoxFi feature still works for your phone, it is still the best solution for sharing phone Internet since there is no limit on what kind of devices you can connect.

======(New)WiFi Direct Hotspot=======
This new WiFi Direct feature in PdaNet 5 allows you to connect WiFi mode from computers or tablets. However unlike the old WiFi Hotspot, it will require you to either install PdaNet on the connecting computers/tablets or set up proxy settings. Use this feature if you are no longer able to turn on WiFi Hotspot, or if your WiFi Hotspot usage is being metered when you already have an unlimited data plan.

======(Legacy)WiFi Hotspot=====
Android 7.0 (Nougat) or later no longer allows the old WiFi Hotspot mode even for Verizon phones. Please refer to PdaNet instead for alternative solutions.

Due to lockdowns through each phone system update, the old WiFi mode will only be allowed on a short list of compatible devices. As of 11/2016, IN GENERAL:
—Android 7.0 (Nougat) or later no longer allows WiFi mode even for Verizon phones.
—Verizon Samsung phones (S3/4/5/6/7/Edge, Note 2/3/4/5 etc.) , Verizon LG phones (V10, G2/3/4/5 etc.) and Verizon Sony phones (Z2/Z3) are supported by Android versions up to Android 6.0/6.1.
—Verizon HTC phones (M7/8) will only work on Android 4.1 ~ 4.4.
—Verizon Motorola phones will only work on Android 4.3 or below.
—AT&T Samsung phones will only work on Android 4.2 or below.
—Other carriers/phones will only work if they still have Android 4.0 or below.
—Straight Talk phones will only work if it uses Verizon and are compatible with the above.
—For all other phones, use USB mode or Bluetooth mode instead.

*To get around lockdowns on WiFi mode FoxFi may prompt you to install a certificate on your phone, this will cause the Android system to enforce a screen lock and show a security message in notification. For more detail and steps to remove screen lock please visit http://pdanet.co/wifi.
*If you receive a message asking for a "password for credential strorage" this is due to a bug in the Android system. Please see steps to clear this message at pdanet.co/wifi

Free edition will turn off after timed usage limit but you can turned it back on, otherwise it is same as full version.

  • Newbie user: I have been able to use pdanet w/foxfi (free version) via successfully via bluetooth connection (after many false starts). Each time I have to check “Activate Bluetooth DUN” in foxfi on my Galaxy S3 phone before starting pdanet/tablet on my Tab2. I’ve never used it only a few times now and not for more than 15 mins or so but now my unlimited data plan on Verizon is going through the roof! Do I have to turn off foxfi when I’m not using it so it doesn’t continue running/using my data when I’m not online? I thought it would simply disconnect when I go offline as I always have to first click “Activate Bluetooth DUN” to use it. Thanks.

  • IT doesnt work with jelly bean… But whats wrong with paying 6 or seven bucks one time fee instead of 30 bucks a month … every month fee! this is why people quit making apps for us!!!!

  • Sorry guys…I think they are on to me lol… I have a stock Verizon DROID Razr w/ 4.0.4 and just today it quit working. Now the app will not allow me to change the Hash Code. Also, it comes up with the ‘Update to newer version’ message. I’m gonna work on it and see if I can find a solution. For now, I’m using PDANet 3.50 tethered 🙁 …

    • Allan, I’m having the same problem. I paid for the full version of PDANet, then found out about FoxFi, used it when it was free, then when they started charging in Nov, I paid ful price for it. Now a couple weeks ago it stopped working for me too. I’ve sent emails to PDANet and FoxFi and have not gotten a response. I don’t want to pay again, especially if I can’t get in touch with any customer service person. If I was to pay AGAIN and it not work I would be beyond pissed! Have you found a workaround for yours?

    1st – says I must update,
    then i change hashcode, ok
message: this version FoxFi no longer supported please upgrade…
Anything that can make it work?
    please?! and Thank You 🙂

  • Here is the fix…read carefully!! Email me if you need further help.
FoxFi was an awesome app until they decided to become dicks and ask you to pay for an updated 1.95.3 that barely works. Not to mention, the updated free version works better but disconnects after 15 mins of use. So here’s the free solution that you all were accustomed to.
1: Uninstall your current version of FoxFi unless its 1.91
2: Depending on your Android Software, under Security or similar, find ‘Unknown Sources’ and make sure you check it off.
3: From this website (www.appsapk.com), download and install FoxFi version 1.91.x (no higher)
4: When you first run the app, it will say ‘no longer current; please upgrade’ or ‘old version’ etc You get the idea; it wont connect. It shows in the app ‘No network detected’. Dont worry! BUT DO NOT UPGRADE TO CURRENT VERSION.
5: On your PC, make sure you ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove’ any auto connect feature previously established for your ‘FoxFi’ app.
6: Rerun the FoxFi app on your phone. After getting the upgrade message or No Internet Detected message, scroll down to where it says Hash Code (Do Not Change). Notice its blank with no numbers?
    7. Click on it and it will pop up a box where you can enter info.
    8. Enter a random seven digit number followed by an underscore followed by another random four digit number. EX: *******_****
    Then click on OK.
9: Touch the Activate WiFi Hotspot icon again and you will see it go thru the ‘starting hotspot 1, 2 3 etc’ until it says Hotspot On.
10: At this point, you can rename your Network Name (SSID) and set up your (WPA) password.
11: On the PC, search for wireless connections and you should see your network name displayed. Click connect and type in your nertwork security password.
12: And there you go!! Connected!! Now be sure to disable ‘Automatic Updating’ of the FoxFi app on your phone.
13: You are now GOLDEN!! No usage restrictions or pay to upgrade bull$hit.
    Thanks for reading…Good Luck

    • You totally rock, Dude! I was really pissed when they pulled that “update now pay” switcheroo. Your solution works perfectly. Thanks much.
      Ken

    • Followed your instructions, it connects but states “Limited”; And when I try to fix it, it states “Invalid IP”…any suggestions?

    • When FoxFi initially came out it was free. After awhile it became two-tiered, the free version having a per session variable time limit and a one time fee paid unlimited version. Some time after this FoxFi became part of PDANet.

I have yet to have any issues. Perhaps that is because I am literate and read the instructions. I delayed upgrading to JB on my Verizon Motorola Droid Razr. Once it was announced that they had rectified the issues with FoxFi and Jelly Bean I upgraded and was up and running within minutes.

I have little or no sympathy for those that bitch and moan over a decision by an application developer charging for their work. If the onetime fee overtaxed your wallet, uninstall the application and subscribe to your carriers mobile hotspot service. For Verizon that’ll be $30.00 monthly!

I’m on a grandfathered unlimited data plan which I plan on retaining. Onetime $7.00 versus $360.00. If capable do the math, taking your shoes off is permitted as an aid to better computations!
